about

This one samples the song "Ticket to the Universe" by my longtime best friend Craig Sanburn

the song was made way back in 2009, or possibly 2010, as part of a class project Craig was doing for his Pro Tools class at Diablo Valley College, in Pleasant Hill California

He's always had a way with making music even back in the early days, and he lended me one of my earliest hands in music by letting me put a short verse on the opening of the track

I was simply calling myself "tex" and it was my first time ever recording a rap verse on a good beat with an actual microphone (before that I had recorded using an old phone onto a bootleg version of frooty loops)

My verse only said "well it seems, LSD, the only thing that's helping me, open pupils help you see, just how the world is, from oceans to the forest, isn't it just gorgeous, be thankful the lord has, created all it for us

I was horrible and would have ruined the song had it not been for his mixing skills and encouragement

for "The Universe (Craig)" I sampled a section of his sub bass and synths during the long breakdown (drop) as well as a short sample of his verse at the very end

I also reworked the first part of my verse to be the hook as well as a background drone during the verses.

the new lyrics go "well it seems, help has ceased, whole world plunging into hell with me"

it's a reference to the fact that I am older now, I do not do hard drugs or psychedelics anymore and I have fully accepted the nihilistic truth of the universe as a cold, lifeless void that isn't aware of us and will never be affected by any of our actions

As is one of the themes of this EP, the first verse is a person one about my own thoughts, whereas the second verse touches upon political topics
